Hello all!
My cat got spayed last Wednesday. I have been checking her incision daily to make sure it isn't getting infected and all that, but I have noticed one thing - there is a rather large knot under the incision. Is this a normal thing, just part of the healing process? Should I be concerned at all?
This is a first for me, so I am just looking for what's normal and what's not.
Thanks a lot!
Kitty just got spayed, knot under incision - normal???
Re: Kitty just got spayed, knot under incision - normal???
do you mean knot in the thread? (sorry, just checking)
if knot in skin, then i would call the vet and inquire...maybe they are aware of this already and can explain why...i cannot.

It is probably scar tissue forming, sometimes appears as if it looks like a hernia. However, if it is very soft, draning blood or pus, and if the area seems hot to the touch, or if she's developing any unusual signs or symptoms (fever, lethargy, inappetance, etc), call your vet immediately to rule out possible infection at the suture site. If these are absolvable sutures, she might have a reaction to them. If they are removable, they will need to be removed by your vet in 7-10 days post-op.

I bet that's what it is, Traci. It's just like a hard ball under the incision line (No, Jason, not the sutures...LOL) It's not red, bleeding or draining, no signs of infection and it doesn't seem to be bothering her, so I guess it's normal. She goes next Monday to get her stitches out. I'll just ask him about it then as long as it continues to look good and heal well until then.
Thanks, guys!

The same thing happened with Patches, it was scar tissue, the vet STILL checks on it when I take her in for anything else, but she's been fine for over 6 years now. I guess it happens alot.
