I have a 13 year old cat who is throwing up. She has only thrown up once that I know of, but I just recently had her in to the vets because she was throwing up and was very shaky on her feet (staggering, really) and was extremely dehydrated. They did a large number of tests on her--bloodwork, urinalysis, x-rays, the works--and couldn't find anything wrong. They gave her a bunch of fluids to rehydrage her and put her on antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory just in case and it went away for awhile. Now she's started throwing up again. I don't know if I can afford financially to take her to the vets again, since my car just died and we have to replace it and I'm 7 months pregnant and we haven't gotten any baby stuff yet. She's my baby, though, and I want to take care of her. I'm just running out of options and don't know what to do. Any help would be wonderful!
Thanks in advance!

Cat throwing up -- help!
Re: Cat throwing up -- help!
Tara, perhaps see a new vet. First thing I would try is adjusting the diet to something more digestible, she could be developing a sensitivity to her current diet.....senior kitties fair better on easily digestible diets, and it should be slightly lower in protein and sodium than commercial diets.
Staggering, vomiting and dehydration are really concerning. Despite lack of evidence in bloodwork, I would suggest getting it done again to detect any changes from last time. Also, did your vet include a thyroid panel with the original bloodwork? If not, now is the time to do so. For reference, the most common illnesses in older cats include liver, kidney, heart disease, diabetes, IBD, and hyperthyroidism, all of which need to be monitored on a frequent basis.

Re: Cat throwing up -- help!
The vet just called to check up on her, I didn't get the message until after they called, but I called them and left a message so they'll probably call me back tomorrow. We'll see what happens on that front.
In the meantime, I got some science diet senior and she scarfed it down (she refused other cat food today while I was at work, apparently) so it's wait and see on that front too. Thanks for the advice. I sincerely hope it's just the food not agreeing with her.
