Traci, somebody help! kittens driving me nuts!

Post by Wanda »

Yes, they are sweet loveable pretty and funny, but they are running everywhere! climbing out of the box (no matter what I do)climbing up my legs getting under my feet, you name it they are doing it! Emmy and Tony are eating great mostly kitten milk with a little dry kitten food mixed in. But big fat beautiful Oscar won't eat for nothing, can only get him to lick alittle off my finger. He is Dolly's favorite so really he is never hungry. Please tell me what to do or he won't be ready to leave at 8 weeks and I can't wait to get things back to normal. Not so attached at times anymore, lol. I have tried keeping them in bathroom, there is no "keeping" them anywhere. Thanks, Wanda

Sounds like you might have a slow weaning kitten in Oscar. I've had two, and it isn't easy. Keep trying, but if you can, try the canned Iams with the KMR formula mixed or poured over it to entice him more, rather than mixing formula with dry food. It could be he would take to canned moreso than dry at this point.

As for the energy and rambunctiousness, can't prevent that, they are going to be really energetic and want to explore and get into mischief until they're almost 6 months old or so. This stage they are at now is a learning experience, they are learning to socialize, explore, learn, develop and everything is interesting to them, they will be on the go! Just keep them safe from dangerous obstacles in the home, ensure they are developing, growing and maintaining weight, seemingly healthy, and interested more each day in their solid food. I wouldn't try to seperate them from Dolly until they are around 6 weeks of age, then only attempt this for short periods of time each day to gauge how they and Dolly will adjust each time. Will take alittle patience and some time, but be consistent.

Thanks Traci,
I read your post and since it was kittens feeding time actually alittle past, I fixed the milk as usual then the dry/milk mix, still Oscar wasn't interested, I didn't have any kitten wet so got some of Dolly's, at first nothing then tried some on my finger and he went for it, so tried from the bowl and in he went eating like crazy, so maybe this will help. I never would have thought it would work, but there you go, you were right on again! I have tried to get them use to the litter box, but they tend to want to eat the litter gravel, and not at all interested in using the bathroom. Emmy again seems to be catching on alittle, but not quite. I don't think Dolly is happy with them using her box, so guess I will get them their own tomorrow. Sometimes I feel like the ole woman who lived in a shoe. lol Wanda
