Our cat just got home from the vet today, and we're a little worried.
First, she doesn't seem to be eating or drinking much. She just mostly sits there, seeming stunned. I read online where people's cats acted normal after they came home from being spayed, but ours is still kind of wobbly and weak. Is this okay, or should I freak out?
Second, once when she peed, she sort of dribbled for a while afterward, leaving spots behind her as she walked (not bloody, just urine). Is this normal? Do cats sometimes have worse bladder control after being spayed?
Finally, and the most disturbing, our other cat is acting really weird, like she doesn't know the one that got spayed. They've been together in our house for quite a while, more than a year. But now our older cat hisses and growls at the younger one as if she doesn't even recognize her! The little one doesn't seem to be particularly concerned, doesn't seem to feel very threatened (my wife said she hissed back a few times). Has this ever happened to anyone? We thought it could be just the anti-septic smell, because our older cat used to be terrified of the vet, but it really seems like she doesn't even know who the young one is anymore--she's acting like she has in the past when we introduce her to a new cat!
Any help you can give would be appreciated. We're keeping them separate, of course, but we're very confused about this. Thanks a lot.
help with cat post-spay questions, please?
Re: help with cat post-spay questions, please?
What time exactly was the spay done? Since you posted around midnite, I am assuming yesterday afternoon? She shouldn't have been released until fully recovered from anesthesia, if she is still wobbly and is not eating, call your vet back and report that to him immediately. Typically, they are not interested in food or water until around 6-8 hours post-op, if you feed too soon after anesthesia, vomiting could be a concern.
If she happens to have a temperature above 103, don't wait, get her back to your vet immediately. She could be developing an infection, or a suture reaction.
As for the other kitty, don't worry about that, she can smell the clinic scent from your other cat, this will pass, just let them re-adjust on their own terms.

Thank you for the reply. She seems to be improving, mostly. We got her to eat a little bit, and she's already trying to jump up to places she's not strong enough to get yet. Also, our other cat is still scared, but we're chalking it up to general freakiness. Anyway, thanks much for your response.
