Strange behavior

Post by kikispot »

We have a four year old spayed male cat ("Spot", named by my daughter). He lives outdoors, sleeps indoors.

Lately, say, the last week or so, he's been acting strange, restless as though something is bothering him. He doesn't want to sit still, often he will just sprint from place to place. When he stops, he sits in a funny position (almost like going to the bathroom) and the skin/fur on his back twitches up and down in uncontrolled spasms.

I would like to take him to the Vet, though I'm scared of a large bill for what may turn out to be nothing. I figured I'd try this first.

Anyway, has anyone seen anything like this before? Could it be worms, he seems to want to eat a lot?

Thank you so much, in advance.

since he is an outdoor cat you are probably unable to monitor his bowel movements...its possible he has a blockage. this can be determined from a quick physical examination at your vet if the blockage is severe and its possible that meds can loosen it up. if its a blockage, it needs to be dealt with very quickly...can be fatal over short time.

call your local vet ahead of time and tell them your situation, they should be able to let you know what a typical visit (physical examination) costs and what arrangements can be made if more is involved. alot of places will allow you to pay over a short period of time if the bill is high.

lastly, i would suggest keeping him indoors if you can.

Jason is right. If your kitty is blocking, you really don't have much time before it turns uremic, where the urines backs into his sytem and turns poisonous. And if this isn't the case, your kitty still has something going on that only your vet will be able to determine.
It's great that you were able to pick up on his odd behavior. Again I agree with Jason, that keeping him indoors is a great idea, for many reasons. I hope your kitty doesn't have anything serious going on. Please let us know how he is doing, ok?
Kitty kisses,
Debbie
