Help! My week-year old kitten's eye may be swollen.

My cat recently gave birth to three male kittens.
She had one kitten at the house, but hours later problems occured and she had to have a c-section done at the hospital.

She was put on medication, the doctor said it was fine for them to continue nursing from the mother. A week passes and the first born kitten's eye looks about the size of a marble. It's not open yet.
Is this normal? Is the kittens eye just opening up?
It looks terrible and I don't know whether it's an emergency or if I'm just a worry-ward.

Can someone please help me and my kitten?

near_hope, I do not know anything medically about our beloved cats just love them lots, but I also have week old kittens and none of them have that problem at all, I think you should see a vet asap. I hope Traci or some of the others that know about these things, see this quickly. I read the emergency signs and symptoms link and I gather from that it may indeed need vet attention soon. What medication is the queen on?

As for the newborn's eye, if it is swollen, then yes, please get him evaluated by your vet right away. Sometimes newborns are susceptible to infections, and getting them detected and treated effectively at the onset will prevent worsening problems.

The eyes typically open between 7-14 days. But any swelling, oozing of pus or other discharge demands a vet check.
