flea treatment

hi everyone, i have a 8 year old tabby named Pete. Pete is still very active for his age and he's also an inside/outside cat. I would like to know if anyone knows of a flea preventative that is not harmfull for my cat. I tried some other stuff but then later found out that it was very poisonous. Thanks.
