Should I let them fight it out? (long sorry)

Post by karlyk »

My fiance and I recently adopted a new kitten, Sasha. We already had a 1yr. old neutered, male cat named Mr. Pants. Mr. Pants is an unusual cat. He thinks he is a human. He loves to play with people, however he is very aggressive with other animal. He hisses all the time.

We have been keeping Sasha in our bedroom for the past week. She was spayed the day before we brought her home. I should mention that Sasha is only just 6mts old and only weighs about 5 pounds. Pants weighed 13.6lbs. at his last vet visit.

We have been trying to let them meet each other in short periods of time. At first, Mr. Pants did his usual hissing thing, but then I thought they started to play with each other. I realized he was just chasing her through the house. We have also be alternating who is in the bedroom. We try to let Sasha out for 30min to an hour every so often. I thought it would help them get used to each other's scent. Now whenever the two of them get together, they are rolling arount on the floor biting each other. At least that's what I think they are doing. I can't tell if one of them is getting hurt or not. Sometimes Mr. Pants chases her down and starts "fighting" with her. and sometimes Sasha chases him and then the fighting starts. He's so much bigger than she is and I am she's going to get hurt. but I also want them to get along. Any advice?

question, are there noticible sounds of struggle when they seem to be fighting? im trying to understand if its agression or just playing.

I'm not an expert, but, my cat's do this all the time, I think that they're playing tag :D It did make me nervus at first and I would do time out's, after 2 months of it I called my vet, and she said that if blood wasn't being drawn to let them go. However If her spay isn't fully healed I'd keep them seperated.

I haven't heard any loud sounds, but somtimes it sounds like they are grunting at each other. I have noticed that when we do hold them up next to one another they don't usually hiss. they just sniff each other. sasha seems to be picking alot of the "fights." Maybe they are just playing. I have never had two cats at the same time, so I don't know how they are supposed to play or what I need to be worried about. Her spay incision looks healed up to me, but since neither of them are declawed I am nervous about her being hurt again. thanks for the help!
