Is My Kitty in Labor???
Is My Kitty in Labor???
Hello All I am Adrianna and just registered here, My question to any of you is, My 7 month old kitten got pregnant, She's been extra lazy for the past 4 days, I woke up and her stomach is ROCK hard. The vet told me that she is probably having contractions and to watch for a "discharge" It's been 4 days, is that good for her to be like this or are Cats the same as women. Braxton hicks before the baby actually arrives? Any help would be great!
anything is possible, most the time cats in labor will start
becoming secretive and trying to find a place to nest and give birth..she may circle aroung like making a nest. When labor strts she will lie on her side and ofter act like she is streaching by arching her back and extending her legs...but they are all different...cats very rarely have a problem but just me sure you have your vets or the emergency vets phone number on hand....if she finally picks a spot, might be good to throwa a few old towels down so she can fix up her own nest.....as they used to say in the old movies, go boil a lot of water...there is no reason for this but gives you something to da..
I agree with Davet, but I would take her in for an exam, you cannot garantee she or her unborn are not having some sort of complication. Just for reference, a kitten could be lodged in the birth canal, twisted, and could be preventing the entire birth from occuring as it should. There are various other complications, but don't wait for them to happen, get her checked by your vet, he can do a quick x-ray to see how many kittens there are, if any are unusually twisted, or to check for dilation etc.
Your kitten is only 7 months old, she may not even be fully developed herself yet, don't take chances.
