cat in heat (?) Please help!
My cat is in heat (I think). She's been an indoor cat for 7 months now and this is the first time I've actually noticed her being in heat. She's a young cat, but I'm not sure how young. We've had her almost a year now and she had kittens a couple of months after we got her last spring. But a couple of weeks ago she was in extreme heat. Meowing and moaning all night and day. Rubbing and flipping constantly on the floor. You could just pet her and she would "position" herself. There were males EVERYWHERE around the outside of my house! I even woke up at 4am one morning to the sound of fingernails on a chalkboard. It was a male cat trying to dig through my glass window! My cat was on the other side of the window "calling" to him. It was crazy! So there was no doubt she was in heat. During this time she would dart out the door before I could stop her (she does this most the time anyway which is a whole other problem) I caught her with a couple of males outside before I could "talk" her into coming in. So, I assumed she was pregnant. This went on for over a week. It's now been 4 or 5 days since and lastnight she seems to be back in heat again! She's starting her meowing a little again and she ran outside lastnight and was gone for 4 hours! I finally found her with a male cat in the yard. I had originally planned to let her have these kittens. Then get her "fixed" after she's done nursing them. But, I don't even know if she's pregnant! What should I do?!!! Also, what do you do about a cat that ALWAYS gets out of the house? I just have the hardest time getting her back in. It usually takes two people to get her back in. When we first got her she was a stray that begged and jumped in the house all the time, but I kept putting her back out in hopes that her owners would find her. But, finally gave up after a couple of months when she became pregnant and was about to deliver her kittens. She then became an indoor cat. That made her happy for a few weeks then she would always beg to get out. This is the most confussing cat! Please help!!!!!

Solution: Get her to your vet for a spay.
She is wanting outside because she is in heat and looking for a mate. Spaying will solve that problem.
For every heat cycle you allow her to endure, increases the risk of mammary cancer, uterine cancer, pyometra, urinary tract infections, etc.

I had no idea about the risks! But, she may very possibly be pregnant now. How long should I wait before getting her spayed? How soon can I tell if she is for sure pregnant first?
Re: cat in heat (?) Please help!
Get her to your vet immediately.....he can tell you upon exam and/or x-ray if she is pregnant or not. If not, get her spayed immediately. If she is in early term, she can still be safely spayed. Your vet can discuss this with you.

Also, at seven months, she runs a higher risk of having her kittens not survive or her dying trying to give birth.
She won't miss motherhood and she'll be a very good pet. She's suffering now, so get her spayed!
