my cat is acting strangely
my cat is acting strangely
I have a 4 yr old cat and shes always meowed at me when she wanted me to do something for her, like feeding her or giving her water or opening the door for her to be let outside. Lately though, when she meows at me, it isnt food or water that she needs, but makes me follow her to her litter box or the usual places she goes to toilet by meowing at me until i go with her and she digs up the dirt to go toilet and sits down, and it seems to me as if shes trying to go toilet but when she gets up i can see that nothing has come out and she sniffs the area that she was sitting on and just walks away. This has happened quite a few times now, i dont think its just coincidence. My cat has been just eating dry food and water for the 4 yrs she has been with me- she doesnt eat the canned food we buy her. Does that have something to do with this? She has been perfectly healthy though during the past 4 yrs until now. What is wrong with my cat? Is she constipated?

Hi,
Your cat may very well be trying to tell you something. If I were you, I'd take your cat to the vet ASAP to get checked for a urinary tract infection or crystals. These can be very serious and must be dealt with right away. Also, if kitty become blocked (has she urinated at all?), then she is in an emergency situation. Constipation could also be an issue, but any elimination issues, especially with your baby summoning you to the litter box, should be dealt with by a vet. You sound like you have a very smart kitty! Please let us know what the vet says, and good luck.

KK is right, get her to a vet ASAP...you can't always discern if this is a potential urinary tract infection/blockage vs constipation....your vet can determine this upon exam and urinalysis. Please don't wait another minute on this!
