Meowing mother

Post by Littlesapphire »

My cat, Tae Chi, had her first litter (seven kittens) about seven weeks ago. We started feeding them kitten food regularly a couple weeks ago, but the mother keeps insisting on letting them suckle. Not only that, but she's constantly meowing to them, running in to see them, then leaving again, especially if they aren't suckling. Is there anything wrong with her? And if so, if there anything I can do to help? Or is she just an inexperienced mother? Your opinions would be appreciated :)

Well to me it sounds like she's just a very good mommy. I have a mommy cat and her baby. The "baby" is now 3-1/2 years old. The mommy actually nursed this kitten for a total of TWO YEARS, even though there wasn't any more milk! Mother cat is responsible for teaching the kittens how to behave. They teach them all sorts of things along with nurturing them. My mommy would run from the other room to check, if she heard her kitten meow or if anybody came into the house.

I'm assuming that you're going to have the mother spayed so she doesn't have another litter? The spaying will take care of the milk.
Good luck with your new family. I hope all goes well with them! LOL
