Chloe Panting

Post by Mona »

Chloe is now about 9 months old. After playing with her feather toy for a short period of time, she overheats and starts panting heavily. I am very upset about this. Has anyone experienced this, could it be her heart etc.

I am of course taking her Saturday to the vet and I was ask to not overtax her during the week until she is evaluated.

Please let me know if you have had an experience like this, and of course Traci if you would offer advice, I would appreciate it.

We love Chloe very much and hope this can be taken care of.

Depending on the exertion depends on the seriousness. If weakness is combined with the panting, then you want to ask your vet to listen thoroughly to her heart and lung sounds (and rule out a heart murmur)

If this has been persistent, and every time she plays, then yes, a thorough exam is warranted for the reasons above. If it only happens occasionally, it's probably nothing to worry about, but you want to play it safe and make note of this to your vet, especially any other symptoms she displays during playtime. As you mentioned, it's best to reduce her activity at those times.

Traci~

It seems to happen lately and we did not notice it previously.

Each time she jumps a lot for her feather, and I have noticed she does not play as much as she did before either.

I am keeping my eye on her, and will have a thorough exam done with a lot of questions.
