Feedback from owners with a good Declawing experience

Post by Uncertain »

I am reading up on declawing as I have recently adopted a kitten (3 months old). The vet I go to recommended I get her declawed (some interaction with kids, left alone all day).

I have read many articles against it and I understand why. However, I would really like to get real stories about the experience without too much emotional influence.

How long was the recovery period?
Any difficulty re-training with the litter box?
Did the kitten/cat experience behavioral changes?
Recovery issues?

Would you do it again?

Thanks for your input.

none, you use "yesterday's news" litter for about a week or so
Did the kitten/cat experience behavioral changes?
first cat : none
second cat: was a bit gimpy on the front paws for a few months, didnt like you touching them but is fine now.
Recovery issues?
none other than watching for bleeding (if any, mine did not) and making sure sutchers are gone after (at most) a month.
Would you do it again?
since mine are indoor only and know all about the weekness of window/patio screens, yes.
