Blind cat not eating and acting strange

Post by Betty »

Our fifteen year old cat who has been blind with detached retinas for a year and adapting very well has all of a sudden starting to act strange not eating but not in any apparent pain. He will run around the yard as if someone or something is chasing him but will come in the house and get on the bed and sleep. Wish I knew what was up!

Not eating is serious, get your kitty to your vet immediately for a full exam and bloodwork if it hasn't been done within the last 6 months. Anorexia that persists past 2 or 3 days demands immediate veterinary attention.....the liver and kidneys can fast fail as a result of anorexia and dehydration, don't take that chance.

A 15-yr-old blind cat should not be allowed outdoors, regardless of your supervision...he could get lost, scared away, the outdoor hazards are too great.
