Litter box issues

Post by Guest »

:? Need some help...

We adopted a 10 year old ragdoll mix from our local shelter last month. He has been to vet. All is ok....He has adjusted quite well. The only problem we have is that when he urinates, he does it on the rim and outside of the litter box. I keep the box very clean, scoop twice a day, spray the area that gets soiled, etc. I got the largest box I could find. I even inverted the lid of a covered box so that the sides would be too high to perch on. He does have two boxes. He "poos" in one and urinates on the edges of the other. I am just at a loss on how to handle this. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Karinka....

Sounds like you're doing the right things, but have you tried switching the litter type? If changing litter types doesn't help, I would suggest at least placing the box on a tiled (or linoleum) surface to make cleaning easier. Some cats naturally 'brace' themselves over the box and you can't really change that, but you can certainly experiment with another type litter.

I don't recommend covered litterboxes, but you might try that as well.

Thank you Traci for your reply. I just picked up a covered box (I have hesitated getting one as most vets/ shelter staff, etc. advised against it.) But, at this point, it can't hurt. I am going to try another litter if the covered box does not help. I currently use a clumping litter as that is what was used at the shelter, but will look into other types.

At least I know we are doing all of "the right things" thus far....

Again, thanks for your reply....
