How can I find a vet i can trust?

The last time I took my kitty to the vet (VetSmart) to have his teeth cleaned, he came back with a concussion.
I've avoided taking him to the vet ever since (even for checkups).
But now he has a lump on his neck and I'm concerned that it may be something serious, so I have no choice but to take him in.

I live in San Jose, California
How can I find a good veterinarian that I can trust?

talk to other pet owners, ie people walking or ones you know have pets....how do you tell when a cat has a concusion????

Get a different vet now! One vet I had pinched my kitty on the foot until he cried, for no reason! He wasn't going there again.
