I'll try to keep this short and to the point:
- 2 cats (Bettie and Ginger)
- Bettie has always been moody (1 year old); Ginger a stuffed animal (almost one year)
- Bettie is now wailing all the time but especially when I go out, come home or even go in a room and close the door. My girlfriend has been witness to that and it doesn't happen when I'm out of the picture for an hour or so.
- She follows me around but doesn't want to cuddle too often, just wants to be in the same room...often howling. She will climb up on me and rub her face but doesn't really want to be attended to. I'm also home a fair amount.
- The younger cat ginger is really a teddy bear (very compliant) but has 10x the energy of bettie. To the point where bettie used to be the boss but no more. Bettie almost seems to be afraid of her former play toy.
- I have no idea what psychological problem is taking place...if its me, or the relationship change with the other cat. I just know that the howling is driving me crazy.
- On top of howling, bettie sometimes drags her stomach on the floor or flops around in between the howling. She will however stop and play at a moments notice and eats/relieves herself just fine
-All these things have kicked in at about the same time. I hate hearing her howling as I feel bad for her but it also drives me crazy....does anyone have any suggestions/advice?

Re: Going crazy
First, I hope I'm not confusing you by moving your posts....you posted in Debbie's Cloud, but behavioral issues are generally posted in Feline Health, so I moved your post.
Next, I'm wondering if there is some connection to your first post (litterbox issue).....while it didn't sound like a health concern at the time, there yet may be a connection. If it is the same cat with the two different issues, perhaps a vet check is a good idea at this point, to make sure she is not developing a hidden illness, such as a urinary tract infection.
Otherwise, she is probably simply demanding attention. However, cats usually tend to choose one owner in which to bond the closest, she may feel more comfortable with your girlfriend rather than you. I'm not sure you can change that, but you can certainly try offering her more attention, play with her, spend quality time with her.

Re: Going crazy
My questions is, are your cats spayed?
Some of those signs sound like a female in heat, or as Traci stated she may not be feeling well and need a checkup.
Females will also exhibit signs of being the dominant female. I have a kitten and a 5 year old cat and the kitten tries to dominate my other female.
I do hope you find something out and things get better for the two girls soon.
