Cat is scooting on rug

Post by drshroud »

Hi-
We have a ten year old cat who all of a sudden started "scooting" on the carpet. We had taken her to the vet who expressed her anal glands, but it started again. We took her to the vet a second time and the vet recommened giving her wet food. We gave her wet food and the scooting has not stopped.

We took her to a second vet a THIRD time who said to give her Metamucil. We did so and it STILL has not stopped. That vet seemed to dismiss it as some sort of quirk. We, however, believe it is something much more.

We have a new baby and this is complicating things, as you can understand.

Any advice on what to do?

Thank you.

I have to agree with you. SOmetimes an infection can set in and antibiotics are required. Try another vet or clinic? That is what I would do.

Here is a link describing what can happen with anals.

After re-reading your post and seeing you did consult another vet.

Call back and ask for antibiotics to see if this can help.

Canned plain pumpkin is an excellent fiber source and I use for my girls, and as well there are capsules (I have these) Vetasyl Fiber Capsules, which I use once a week for both cats and really works to clean out.
