Why is my cat doing this now?
One of my cats is 9-10 months old...we have a 4 month old kitten. We got him about 2 months ago and they love each other!!! However, in the last week and a half the older cat has decided to defecate...not peee..on a area of my rug..not all the time..just once a day every ohter day. He has never sone this before! He will even go to litter box...pee in it..then get out walk to area of rug and poop!!!!! Then the kitten..baby..goes over to it and looks soooo cute trying to cover it up by scratching the carpet towards it! Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi...I'd recommend taking him into the vet for a checkup...could be related to something physical. My next question would be how many litter boxes do you have? Many cats prefer a seperate box for urinating and defecating...so if you don't have enough boxes for this purpose that could be the problem. Try adding another one and see what happens. Get some Nature's Miracle and use it to clean the area's he poops on, this will remove the smell and help deter him from wanting to go back there. Hope this helps!

Tina's post mirrors EXACTLY what I would have said. But I'd like to add one thing. With a kitten in the house, is it possible that the older cat has been "ambushed" while doing his business? If he was attacked (even playfully) while in the box, he might decide to move to a "safer" place. (after all, it takes some time to pass a poop and who wants to get a sneak attack right at that moment?)
