Sudden eye problem
Hi there everyone I'm new to this forum, but I've a question. My two year old, tiny tortie point siamese, Tae Chi, came in earlier today to get her lunch. After she ate, she ran down the hall and I noticed that her one eye was closed. When I opened up her eye and took a closer look there was a lot of slimmy gunk in there, and it looked as if her inner eyelid was damaged. The thing is, it wasn't like that when she came in just moments before. She's currently pregnant, and I'm wondering if I should rush her on over to her vet. I'd appreciate any opinions you'd like to share
Re: Sudden eye problem
i wouldn't rush but would get there as soon as possible, could be an injury or conjunctivitis,,,call your vet to get an appointment and ask if you can use warm wet compress to clean out the gook...fortunatly the eye heals very well when caught in time.

Re: Sudden eye problem
Hi...welcome to the forum. She could very well have had an injury and it got infected, or she could have a respiratory infection...I would definitely get her to a vet as soon as you can to start treatment. I am assuming when you say you let her in, you mean she is out outside cat? If so may I suggest that you bring her in to stay, especially while she is pregnant...it would reduce so many dangers to her and her babies when they are born. Is there a reason why she hasn't been spayed? Anyway, get her to the vet as soon as you can...I've seen some infections in the eye cause cats to lose their eyes almost...usually due to herpes virus...good luck..keep us posted

Re: Sudden eye problem
Hi there, and thank you for your advice, both of you I did call her vet after I read your messages, and she said to try giving her some chlortrimeton, because she thought that it had something to do with upper respiratory. Anyway, she's doing much better today. Her eye is open and, though it's a little red still, she seems to be doing fine.
As for why she was out, she'd gotten loose earlier that day, and I just got her back inside for her lunch. She's my baby Also, we haven't gotten her fixed because she's a beautiful cat, and we'd like her to have one litter before we take her to get her spayed. Unfortunately, it took us a while to find her a good boyfriend, as our two male cats are already fixed.

Glad things are looking up...and very glad you are going to have her spayed...I foster abandoned kittens and there are just soooo many unwanted ones that don't find homes these days it breaks my heart.
