Mixing Cat Food

Post by Saphire_1975 »

Cassy, (4 months old) is on Iams Kitten and Sammy (10 months old) is on adult food also Iams Sammy is slightly overweight so the vet put him on adult food at 8 months. The problem is that the cat's feel that food should be shared so eat out of eachothers bowls. I've just been putting in both bowls a mixture of the 2 that way Cassie gets her kitten food no matter which bowl she eats from, but, Sammy doesn't get all of the caleries from kitten food Sammy's weight is leveling out due to Cassie exersizing him :D but is this safe for Cassie? Sammy is 10.5 lbs and Cassie is about 4lbs.

Thanks,
Saphire

I had to do this with my cats when I brought D'Artagnan home. It was at my vet's suggestion. He just said to make sure that D'Artagnan got to eat a kitten sized portion (it says on the packaging) of canned kitten food to himself at least once a week (better if twice a week). So, for the first six months, twice a week, D'Artagnan got his canned food seperate from Booker. At six months, Booker was getting fat from the kitten food so we switched everybody over to adult, except for the canned food which D'Artagnan still got kitten formula until just recently. Now they both get adult formula. He's fine now! He's a lean 8 pounds (he was a runt, but the vet assures me he'll grow for at least another year) at 1 year old. :)
