Not eating, regurgitating

Post by Guest »

Hi everyone, I have some questions before I take Jasper to the vet, first a little background: he's 14 and has been healthy (other than asthma when he was a kitten) since my father owned him. Unfortunately my dad passed away last year, leaving me with a cat who's used to somone being around all the time. I've averaged over 8 hours a day for the past year or so; I try to give him some of the attention he craves every day when I get home.

A couple of days ago I noticed him throwing up. but there was no food, grass, hair, etc. Yesterday I fed him wet food, which he usually eats in a couple of hours - didn't touch it. I knew he wasn't feeling good that night. today I came home to find he didn't run to the door yelling at me like usual, he talked a little recognizing my presence but since has been sort of moping around. He hasn't thrown up yet since I've been home, but he isn't touching his food, either. I'm not sure what could be causing this. he still purrs when I pet him. his paws and hair on his upper lip look wet, unhealthy. I'm in the process of finding a good vet but could use any advice to see if it needs immediate attention. I don't see any really extreme symptoms but sometimes sooner is definitely better. Any information would be appreciated; I will do my best to provide more info if needed.

When you say he threw up but there was no food, grass or hair- what was there? Just liquid? How much and was it clear or murky looking?

My advice would be to take him to the vet as soon as possible, given his age he could have something wrong. It is possible that he is losing his sight or hearing (that is why he is calling out).

ALso at 14, he should have a complete blood panel run and urine test to determine if his organs are functioning properly.

Please call for an apointment for him, and of course he is probably very depressed and missing your Dad too. Have you thought of a companion for him? I recently got a kitten for my 5 year old female, and she is playing more and grooming the 4 month old Chloe like it is hers.

Good luck and would like to hear updates.

I would try to get him seen immediately, today if at all possible. It's dangerous for cats not to eat for even a few days. It sounds like it could be a hairball or another kind of blockage, which could be making him feel sick and make him not want to eat at the same time.

Good luck and please keep us posted!
