Worried about bald spot(s)!

Post by moonbow23 »

Last night when my 3 year old cat jumped up on the couch, I noticed that he has lost his hair around his rectum. It looks as if this spot has been shaved and it is in a complete circle, about 1/2 wide. Upon further inspection, the bald circle meets with another bald spot right under his tail. I was wondering what could be causing this. I haven't noticed him paying any "special" attention to the spot and he doesn't seem to have a problem with me inspecting it. It isn't red or swollen either. I just checked him again while typing this and I seen something "gooey" and light brown sticking out of his rectum (it was small and bubbly, possibly poo-poo???) He didn't like me looking "back" there this time and ran off! He is now hiding from me. :( Any help will be GREATLY appriciated. Thanks!!!

This sounds like an anal gland problem.

Not sure about the bald spots by the tail though, maybe related to anals, and when infected or full a very odorous discharge may leak out and should be expressed by your vet. Antibiotics may be prescribed if infection is present.
