Last night when my 3 year old cat jumped up on the couch, I noticed that he has lost his hair around his rectum. It looks as if this spot has been shaved and it is in a complete circle, about 1/2 wide. Upon further inspection, the bald circle meets with another bald spot right under his tail. I was wondering what could be causing this. I haven't noticed him paying any "special" attention to the spot and he doesn't seem to have a problem with me inspecting it. It isn't red or swollen either. I just checked him again while typing this and I seen something "gooey" and light brown sticking out of his rectum (it was small and bubbly, possibly poo-poo???) He didn't like me looking "back" there this time and ran off! He is now hiding from me. Any help will be GREATLY appriciated. Thanks!!!

Worried about bald spot(s)!
Re: Worried about bald spot(s)!
This sounds like an anal gland problem.
Not sure about the bald spots by the tail though, maybe related to anals, and when infected or full a very odorous discharge may leak out and should be expressed by your vet. Antibiotics may be prescribed if infection is present.
