Help pooping kitty.

Post by Amandasmom »

Nick will be a year old in September. He is pooping in the sink among other places. I find the poop in the sink but not on the floor since the dogs eat it before I find it. I've had him checked for worms and he's fine. He is an indoor cat but gets to sit outside on a leash. He has food and litter down in the basement in the laundry room. I'm wondering if he is too lazy to go downstairs or what. When he does use the litter, he doesn't cover it. Does that mean anything? He was found at 2 weeks and hand raised. Any thoughts on this? He thinks he's a dog.

Perhaps with a little more info someone can try to help you. How long has this behavior been ongoing? Is this something that recently started, or has he always been like this? Does Nick regularly use the basement litterbox to urinate? Do you have any other cats in the house? Has Nick been vet checked for any other digestive ailments, or did your vet just check for worms and nothing else?

The behavior has been going on for about 2 months. He had diarrhea so I had him checked for worms. It turns out to be the canned food I was giving him. Once I put him on strictly dry food he was fine. There are no other cats, just 3 dogs. He was using the litter pretty regularly, now he seems to only use it to pee. I was feeding him in the kitchen with the dogs but stopped that to try to get him to spend more time in the basement near the litter box. When he wakes up, I carry him down stairs and put him in the litter. I'm wondering if he just got lazy. He's having too much fun to make the trip downstairs. But it's the best place for the litter since the dogs can't get to it and he has a quiet place.

I did remember a earlier suggestion, that some cats like 2 litter pans so I'm giving that a shot.

Hmmmm.... Usually litterbox problems are the other way around, kitty will poop in he litterbox but pee outside!

I think your idea of using another litterbox is great, I hope it will work for you. If not, here is a URL to a page that has a lot of links with info regarding litterbox problems, likely you will find some useful information.

Good luck to you and your kitty!!!!!

Thanks for the link. I've been doing a lot of reading and the second litter pan is a step in the right direction.
