my blue looks chunky, lilac not, pic enclosed

hi, i know this might seem a silly question but i bought 2 kittens in january one blue (missy) one lilac (sasha)both were identical in size however missy the blue seems to be proportioned in weight whilst sasha seems alot skinnier, sasha the lilac is adorable and very affectionate plus very lively, but lives for food unfortunatley she only likes tinned meat but won't eat cat biscuits (solid)does not eating biscuits affect her weight? or anything else you can think off

Chezza, how old are they? By "biscuits" do you mean dry food/kibbles? The problem you might encounter with canned food only is soft stools, added weight later on, possible dental problems (canned cannot clean or break away tarter/plaque)...Have you tried a different brand of dry? It's difficult to tell by the pics, but if you are concerned in the least about Sasha's weight, don't hesitate to get her checked by your vet, he can tell you what is appropriate for her weight and age.

they r 10mths old both of them, the other cat (missy) loves dry food yes, but sasha wont touch it, not even cat treats or anything hard, I did take her to the vet as she had a very smelly mouth and he said she had gingivitis and did,t look happy to see it in a cat of 6mths, I received anti biotics for her and some cat tooth paste, she is sooo fussy though, i cannot get the paste onto her gums, the only way she still take it is if she licks it off my finger and then at a push.

The gingivitis is probably the sole reason she is not eating the dry food. Gingivitis is a very painful condition, depending on the extent of inflammation.

Ask your vet for an oral rinse instead of the toothpaste..most cats won't tolerate their teeth being brushed, although you CAN get her trained to accept it, it just takes time and patience. If your vet feels she will be prone to gingivitis or other oral problems, your best approach might be an oral rinse instead (that is if she will not tolerate you brushing her teeth).

Until the gingivitis is cleared, continue feeding soft or canned food, but do ask your vet right away about the oral rinse, and get a followup recheck with him after the course of antibiotics....if the course of antibiotics is over, get a recheck ASAP. Dental health is SO very important, getting a head start on it while they are still kittens is a good preventative measure.

Your two kittens are gorgeous! They both look healthy.

If the one has dental problems, it is the cause of her not wanting to eat the dry food and treats.

I brush my cats teeth, who is now 5 yrs old. She has not yet had to have a dental cleaning, but not all cats will let this be done. I also use a dental rinse and the toothpaste is from the vet.

One time her gums became inflamed at a younger age and she was put on antibiotics which cleared this up.

Your vet can help you with the gingivitis, there are even chewable cleaning disks available.

thank you for your comments, i have booked sasha in for another visit to the vet, she did take the course of antibiotics which did cause most of the redness to go down on her gums but i am glad of the information on an oral rinse too as i can sugest this to the vet when i see him.

I konw Sasha in herself is not unwell as she is the livest of all 4 of my cats the other 2 are older now though so understandably she runs rings around the other too with her kitten energy.
