We found our cat, Mo, as a kitten 1 year ago. Because our neighbor has hunting dogs we have kept her inside. Soon we will be moving(to another state) and where it will be very kitty friendly for her to be outside.
We are moving in with my parents for a year while we build on the ajoining lot. My parents had a dog that passed away 3 weeks ago of old age. So while there is no dog, she will still smell him. They do have an older cat(female, like Mo). That cat is primarily an outdoor cat but comes in when it feels like it during winter nights.
What steps can we take to help our cat to become an outdoor cat so that she does not run off. We found her as a stray once, I don't want her to become on again.

for so many reasons (please seach the forums) the cat should stay indoors...mostly health reasons.

I suggest you keep your cat inside where it is safe, especially since she has been indoors since you found her.
There are many dangers, such as disease, antifreeze, wild animals and other cats and dogs, not to mention humans.
WHy not make a cat run outside for her, or let her go on a patio for fresh air and sunshine.
OR let her out in a fenced yard supervised.
My two are strictly inside, but do have patio time.

Another vote for keeping kitty inside...it's just much safer for her. Even if a place seems "kitty friendly" there are still too many dangers outside. I urge you to reconsider making her an outdoor cat.
