Do all/most non-neutered males spray urine?

Post by Lori, Ashley & Gilbert »

I did a search on this but couldn't find what I was looking for. I am trying to find out if it is just a fact of life that a male kitten that is not neutered yet will eventually begin spraying urine?? I am wondering if there are factors that contribute to it happening, like leaving kitty alone for too long, having the windows open (and he smells another cat), etc. Gilbert is doing great and approaching 4 months old. He is our only pet, my daughter and I are home with him almost all of the time, and he never goes outside, ever.

The reason I am so paranoid about urine spraying is because I know someone who had their home ruined by this before they even realized what was happening. They still have their kitty and he is neutered now, but it cost them a lot of money in steam cleaning and to be honest, their otherwise clean house still stinks of cat pee.

I have found this site to be very helpful to me and I appreciate your responses. Thanks!

The answer is Yes!! Infact some do at under 4 months of age.

My advice is to have Gilbert spayed now. My new kitten was spayed at 8 weeks and recovered in two days. You would be doing him a great favor by neutering early.

in addition to Mona's comment, if you wait too long to have them neutered they will still keep marking their territory after neutering...i guess from habit but i would have him neutered ASAP

OUr oldest male was neutred early as well...but still sprayed..til the day he passed away....even got worse the older he got..even tho he was perfectly healthy and no changes were made to the house..he still did it..(I went as far as not changing laundry soap, or shampoo ect...!) Our Vet put him on Ovaban...which worked for a while..then we switched him to Chlomicalm (please excuse the spelling if it's incorrect!) And that worked beautifully! So if he still sprays..that's another option..!

Hope that Helps!
