Yes...it is that time of year for gardening...and some people LOVE the dark rich look of cocoa bean mulch...not to mention the benefits to plants....however...it is LETHAL for your furkids....

So if you garden and need to mulch...stick with cypress or your old rotted leaves from last fall!

I can't believe that these stores are still selling these products without clear labeling and warning signs above the products. When it first became known that these products were toxic to pets, the majority of stores (including Home Depot) used huge warning signs above the products to warn consumers (which saved countless of lives of pets) - now they are lax again, what the **** is wrong with these stores!!

If anyone sees these products in stores, and they do NOT have additional warning signs (store cards, store signs), inform the managers right away, there is no excuse for not posting a simple store sign above the products.

exactly.....

My mom used coca bean mulch way back in the 60s and 70s...but even then we knew to NOT let the dogs out in that yard....we were fortunate to live on a corner lot, so my mom and dad gardened in the front and one side, the dogs and us kids had the back yard and the other side yard...and fences divided both!

I'm sure that Hershey's and Home Depot have no true concerns, where it might hurt their profit is another matter. And, as if they are the authority on how "98% of dogs" aren't interested in cocoa mulch, nor it's toxicity if ingested. Also, I doubt any single owner ever reported an incident to Hershey's or Home Depot, they wouldn't, they would report to their vets.
Snopes usually has good info dispelling myths, but on this one, Hershey's and Home Depot were the wrong businesses to cite.
