I have (2) indoor cats. One of them - it seems, does not use the litter boxes. I have two litter boxes that get cleaned out every other day. I cannot tell if he NEVER uses it - but
we cannot have any rugs on the floor. As soon as I put any throw rugs down, within just a few hours - there's cat pee on it! It started with the one in the bathroom. I assumed that it was because the rug was next to the upstairs litter box.
After I removed that one, it started happening on the one in the kitchen. When I finally gave up washing it and threw it out.. guess what I found on the Giants rug in my son's room...
Now there are NO rugs on any of the hardwood floors. In fact the only room with carpeting is the kids playroom in the basement. NOW guess what that room smells like! I pulled up the carpet, cleaned the floor - put down an inexpensive indoor/outdoor rug ..... STILL HAPPENING!
I found a spot in the corner that was soaked. Cut it out, cleaned the floor with bleach and covered it with cardboard. and moved the litterbox into that room Then tonight I even watched him walk into the room so I went and watched him - strolling around , he peeked into the litter box, even went halfway in, sniffed around and started sniffing around the edges of the room - and then suddenly squatted - I yelled at him and he left - but he'll be back.
we also cannot leave ANY open topped plastic containers facing up. Toys containers, rubbermaid totes, LAUNDRY baskets - get peed in. My kids are trained to turn anything like that upside down.
I also caught him peeing in the BATHTUB - here's the amazing part- he was squatting over the drain!? if I hadn't seen it myself I wouldn't have believed it
what the heck can I do about this????
I am "this close" to getting rid of him - and that would destroy my kids (me too-but I cannot take this anymore!)
Please help!
it's just mind boggling.

CAT Peeing on rugs

Re: CAT Peeing on rugs
How long has this been occuring, and when was his last vet exam? Has a UTI been ruled out? What about stress factors in the home, what has changed within the last 6 months or so? First things first, vet exam ASAP.

We have a similar problem. We have one female cat - a rescue. We got her almost 2 years ago. Her last vet visit was August this year. I think she is pretty sensitive. It took her days before we could touch her and months before she would sit in my lap and she still doesn't do that often. The vet trips are traumatic - this last one the vet thought she might have a heart murmur but because our cat was so upset the vet couldn't really tell. They kept her over night and ruled that out but when I picked her up she was furious. Hissing and spitting and scratching in her carrier and she wouldn't have anything to do with us for about 2 days. Since then we have been finding poop on a blanket on our sofa, in our bed but mostly on the bed in our guest bed room. She's been peeing there too. She uses the litter box also. I've tried cleaning the litter box every day. Closing the bedroom door which I hate doing because sitting in the window in that room is one of her favorite spots. I have guests coming in one month and I really don't want them discovering any embarrassing surprises in their bed! Any suggestions? She is indoor only. I don't know what to do!

Jucham, could you please start a new post about your cat? It makes it easier to keep threads seperated and to be able to find a particular thread about a particular cat if needed in the future. Thanks!
