Hi.
I am a foster kitten mom for a rescue org. out of San Francisco. I have three kittens just off the bottle who are doing really well... The problem, This last Sunday I got a new kitten. She's healthy and really gorgeous, about 4 to 5 weeks old. She came in as a stray. She wants nothing to do with people, and doesn't seem interested in playing with the other kittens. She doesn't show aggression towards people or the other kittens; I can pick her up and hold her- but it's obvious she doesn't want to be touched. All she does is eat, and then hide in the darkest place she can find!
So... Does anyone have any ideas on how I can socialize this baby so she will become a loving, adoptable pet? Is she too old to be socialized?
Socializing stray kittnen?
Re: Socializing stray kittnen?
At that age she is not too old, she is more than likely 1. traumatized 2. missing mom and siblings and 3. adjusting to being in a new world.
I would like to suggest you purchase a snugglekittie for her to give her comfort. It will comfort her without threatening her.
If she wants to hide, then provide her with a safe place to do so, a cat carrier with the door off, covered with a dark cloth and a lot of bedding inside is a perfect place for a scared kitten.
Go in her room and sit on the floor and just read out loud to her so she can get used to you.
She should be with mom, and again, www.snugglekittie.com would be a good option for her.

can't add much more than MA... I personally have found the single kittens are a little more difficult to get to come out of their shell and socialize than those that come with siblings. Give it time and patience...daily sessions of soft talk and gentle petting with the kitten on your lap will help. If she resists petting don't push it....put her down and try again later. Good luck!
