My Majik

Post by Tambrey »

Well..Majik went to the vet today...he has been mopey and threw up some bilish looking stuff...but no fever...bladder is empty and tummy does not feel full or like there is a blockage anywhere...this local vet does not have an x-ray machine...just the basics...

Sooo....we will confine him in the bathroom with his own litterbox through the weekend or until he gives us a solid stool...or does NOT give us a stool by Friday then we will send him to the hospital for an x-ray or ultrasound...

Hoping it is a stubborn hairball and some CatLax will help, but if he does not either throw up a hairball or pass a good stool in the next day or two...off we go to the city...

How old is he? Is he eating, drinking? Is he dehydrated, and did the vet at least give fluids?

When was his last stool produced? How long exactly has he been lethargic? if this goes into tomorrow, I wouldn't wait, Tambrey, so many things can happen in very short time. See an ER vet if necessary, promptly.

Majik is 4 years old...He has been eating and drinking so is not dehydrated, his skin tested fine and gums and eyes look good and bright...

with the cats sharing litterboxes, I honestly do not know when he last went, , so that is why he will be separated until I see one, or if he gets worse I will not wait...I was going to put him in the bathroom, but the way he freaked out just in the vestibule this morning, I am going to let him have run of the halls and leave a separate litterbox, food and water there for him...

He started being lethargic yesterday and vomited twice this morning...

The first thing I thought was UTI and/or crystals bothering him, but his bladder was not full at all, the vet felt and tried to express to get a sample, but nothing came out...and his abdomen was soft and pliable as well...and he did not yowl or fret or anything when the vet was examining him...other than when he got his temp taken...

Did the vet rule out constipation? Any chance he got into anything? Did you feed him any treats or anything?

No, he does not get any treats....once in a while I catch the cats eating Sammie's food, and visa versa...but no treats or table food ever....oh....if Gypsy does not eat all of her canned food and walks away, I just let whoever wants it have it, rather than go to waste or save for later a I have discovered that Gypsy does not like warmed over canned food, so once in a while he will eat some canned food...

As mentioned before, the vet does not have an x-ray machine at his office, but by palpation, there was no tenderness or feeling of fullness in Majik's abdomen...Majik did not try to move away or yowl or grimace or anything during the exam...

I have Majik in the hall now...he is still not too happy and being very vocal, but I sat with him for a while and he was loving up, purrring and ate the CatLax with no troubles and he also munched some cat food...but I may have to bring him into the kitchen, because he would take a bite then sniff the dish and I wonder if I did not get his dish...my cats are funny about that...they seem to know which dish is theirs and seldom deviate from that...so he may have to come and show me which one is his...

He has a clean litterbox and fresh litter so I will be able to see for sure what he is doing...

Remember they all got a dose of drondit (sp) --- red capsule--- on October 30th because I found the ricey looking worms in a stool that someone so nicely left outside the litterbox...They will get their 30 day follow up this weekend...and he recommended since I did actually see the worms, to do a 3rd follow up in another 30 days...

I doubt a third dose for droncit is necessary. Check the litterboxes and the cats after the second dose.

Keep a close eye on Majik (I know you will). Hopefully it is nothing serious, but don't take chances, if he's not better by tomorrow, or more lethargic or continues vomiting, take him in, k?

oh most definitely I will take him if he gets worse!!

He did throw up some since I gave him some CatLax...and it DID had some fur in it...not clumped but loose....so I hope and pray that is all it is....

While I am at the computer, I let Majik come back in with me...he is sleeping on a folded newspaper so I may take that to the hall for him to lay on since it has his scent on it already....

Majik slept with us lastnight...a few peeballs in the litterbox but no poop yet :(

He was all lovey this morning rolling all over us...stretching out on his back across my belly, feet extended on either side of me, for a belly rub...I cannot help but wonder that if he were blocked would that not HURT him to do that?!
I had to try THREE times to get the CatLax into him...he kept spitting it back out onto the floor....grrrrrr...

And I left him greedily eating a bowl of canned Mariners catch in gravy...we will see if that produces anything today while I am at work...

Even though he is not liking it in the hall, he has his creature comforts...food, water, litterbox and a pillow an blankie laid near the heat register in the bathroom...plus 3 windows that he can sit and look out at different views than he usually does

Hopefully there will be a package in the litterbox tonight when I get home

Do you have an update? Has he vomited since yesterday?

Try mixing the hairball remedy into his canned food.

A serious blockage would more than likely cause him to be depressed, vomiting anything he ate or drank, withdrawn, hunched in pain, etc. But, there are numerous other things this could be. Even a hidden bacterial infection could be a problem, have you taken his temp since he was brought home? Maybe take his temp tonite to ensure he's not feverish, if he is, back to the vet, CBC if possible, antibiotics. Is his oral health status pro?

No vomit...but no poop either :(

He ate the canned food but not all of the dry food...the vet did look at his gums and eyes yesterday and said they were nice and pink and clear, but he did not get a full dental...

He is lovey...vocal...purrring....jumping up and swatting at my hand if I stop petting him...rolling all over...let me rub his belly and palpate it...actually I was a bit firmer than I usually would be just to see what he would do...he just grabbed my hand and rubbed his face and mouth all over it...his tummy is nice and soft with no lumps like an impaction or anything...
And he let me clip his claws...grudgedly, but he did...with a bit of struggling, but we managed...

His fur is also not as sleek and glossy as usual...he is more fluffy...but that could be winter coat building up, even though he is indoor only?

I do not have a thermometer, but to touch him tonight he is not warm like he was lastnight...even though he had no temp at the vet's yesterday afternoon...he was warm to touch lastnight than he even was earlier in the day...

I will give him more canned food tonight and see how he does with that...and if he still is not eating hard food, or has produced a stool tomorrow, I will see about getting him back in...since he seems fine elsewise as far as temperament and all goes, maybe he does have a bad tooth or two that is preventing him from eating as much as he normally would and he just needs to build up enough food to go poop?

Or maybe he had a virus that has run its course?...

I know cats are good at hiding pain, but this guy is just not showing any difference in attitude at all...but until he goes poop or we figure out what is going on, I really cannot say WRONG since he does not seem wrong", I will not be satisfied!
