Thank you, Traci, for answering my question. My vet's office was closed for Good Friday, and unfortunately for us, we do not have any emergency vet anywhere in the area. (We did have one but they quit the 24/7 emergency services and just work office hours now.) I will go to my vet first thing Monday morning, with all three cats.

When I took Buster in to be tested on April 3rd, Dr. Sharon was not there (one of her own dogs was very ill) and Sarah, the Vet Tech, was there and took the test. After a third normal glucose test, we know for sure that Buster does not have diabetes. On Buster's liver enzyme test, the number had come down substantially. When first taken, it was "425". Dr. Sharon gave me Hills Science Diet Prescription "L/D" dry food. The test numbers on the 3rd were "276". I realize that this is still not normal, but at least they did drop a ways. I am supposed to continue this diet and bring him back on May 1st for more testing. Buster does not have any of the symptoms of feline liver disease, as given in numerous articles I've looked up on the Internet. Buster is not jaundiced, his appetite is good, he drinks his water (the usual amount - not a large amount), he is frisky and alert and behaving normally.

I'm going to "corner" Dr. Sharon on Monday and show her a copy of the Hills test reimbursement information (if she doesn't know about it already) and also to talk to her about her opinions on Buster's liver enzymes.

I'm sorry if it seems that I haven't done as much as I could for Buster and my other babies. I love them with all my heart. But I am battling a serious medical condition myself - I am not asking for sympathy but just some understanding. I am doing the best I can.

I'm putting pictures of all my babies below, so you can see why I love them so much! I apologize that the ones of Buster and Nikki are so much larger. I tried to make them all the same size, but something messed up when I imported them over here from Photobucket. Any prayers for Buster, Nikki and Shadow will be very much appreciated.

Well, I just grabbed the bag of Ol'Roy dog treats that we had bought when Squirt had a URI a couple weeks ago and needed antibiotics...it was the only thing we found that we could hide them in that he would eat....so far, they are NOT on the list, and we have not given them regularly...but I will hang onto the bag anyways in case it comes up later...

geesh...

Sue keep up the good work with talking to vet and getting the information that you need. Your health is just as important and if you arent healthy you can not take care of them. Do not feel bad please, keep in touch with the vet and try to get rest and do what your dr's say to. If you get more info from vet and have questions please ask here. Good luck on monday with the whole cornering thing

Thank you for the kind words, "mamaof4soon" (mama of children or of critters? Anyway, congratulations either way!)

I said earlier that I didn't have the bag for the Hills Science Prescription M/D dry food (the toxic one!) but I did manage to find the vet bill, which clearly lists the date (1/30/07) and the item I bought (the M/D dry food).

So I'm going to talk to my vet on Monday. If she's busy, I'll "park" myself in her office (I get off work at 1:00 PM) until she gets a break. I am definitely going to have all 3 kitties tested! After reading Hills' site, I see where they had a volunteer bunch of vets, contacting vets all over the country. But in case she hasn't heard, I'm taking copies of the info about the Hills testing reimbursement that I got here, with me. I have heard it can be quite expensive, but my vet has a payment plan that you can sign up for (at 0% interest). So I'll be sure to check into that.

I get very tired with my physical illness. But it's interesting that when beloved family members are potentially in danger, you stop thinking about yourself so much. However, it's sad when it's something you have to worry about...

Again, thanks for your concern and kindness... :D I appreciate it!

Prayers for all the sick babies and those at the Rainbow Bridge. Also prayers for their grieving families.

IMPORTANT--ADDITIONAL RECALLS

Menu Foods announced today that they have recalled some additional foods that were made at their plant in Kansas. Please see their website, www.menufoods.com or www.fda.gov for a complete listing.

Multiple flavors of Nutro 3-oz cans were recalled, along with several other brands, so be sure to check the list thoroughly.

Isn't this awful - all these recalls? And how many dear pets were fed this food by completely unknowing owners?

Mamaof4soon and Debbie, I thought you would like to hear about this... You know I was going to try to work out a payment plan with my vet to pay for testing all my kitties? I was also going to take the information about the $100.00 for testing fees with me. (I never knew if it was per owner or per pet - seen it both ways.)

This afternoon I got a call from Sarah, our Vet Tech, who said the Hills representative had been there just this morning and he mentioned a new screening program by Hills. I don't know what their criteria is, but all 3 of my babies met it. Sarah said all will get tested at no cost. I don't know if this is a change in policy from the $100.00 or my vet charges less (???). I was very relived to hear this and my little trio and I are going into the vet's at noon on Friday, the 13th (the soonest I could get in). Good thing I'm not superstitious!

Thanks for your support and I'm crossing my fingers that the results will be negative on all 3 of my little ones!

And to everyone finding these links, thanks for the good work! You may save someone's precious baby's/babies' life! :D
