INFO:
Hill's has just announced that pet owners who fed their cats the Hill's Prescription Diet Feline M/D dry food are eligible for a one-time payment of $100 for testing expenses (bloodwork done to determine renal values in suspect cases). This payment will be managed by your vet, if you tested your cat prior to this notice, your vet can reimburse you for testing costs you incurred.
So, anyone who fed Hill's Prescription Diet Feline M/D, get your cat(s) tested immediately, and ask about the reimbursement.

More treats recalled also. I am only using this link because it does show pictures of them.

Traci, do you have a link to pass on for that Hill's announcement? Their website didn't say anything earlier today.

Re: ALL POSTS RE: PET FOOD RECALL GO HERE IN THIS THREAD
Kroger has pulled all foods that are made by MenuFoods off the shelf, even if they weren't on the recall list from what I understand. I'm guessing they just want to be on the safe side. I had some whisker lickens treats and notice they contain wheat gluten so I am not giving them to the cats even though they haven't been recalled.

Please, anyone, I need your opinion....

All kitties seem to be all right. Should they be tested even if it was that long ago, to see if they have any renal damage, that might cause problems later on?
I don't want to cause a fuss and distress my kitties by hauling them all to the vet to be tested if it isn't necessary. I'm going to call my vet tomorrow morning, but I wondered what any of you think of this situation? I keep running it through my mind, and I can't decide what to do. I'm trying to decide what I can safely feed my kitty and doggy babies. My Buster had high liver enzymes and is now eating Hills Prescription Diet L/D (with the other cats sneaking some). It is mixed with IAMS Housecat dry food. Honestly, it makes me nervous to be feed either of these brands to them.
Thanks for any guidance or advice you can give me. Liike you, I'm so scared and horrified by this situation. It's like a pet lover's worst nightmare come true and there doesn't seem to be an end to it. Each day more products are added.

My kitty Buster was prescribed Hill's Prescription Diet Feline M/D dry food in December, 2006. My kitties Nikki and Shadow also ate it. The vet said it shouldn't hurt anything if they ate some too, since all three cats are about the same age. The entire bag was eaten and I threw it away.INFO:

Re: ALL POSTS RE: PET FOOD RECALL GO HERE IN THIS THREAD
well, by the time I am replying to this, you have probably spoken with your vet about getting them tested...what did s/he say about getting it done?
Would they have kept lot numbers or anything on record there to know if it was a suspected bag of food that you fed them? I think the recall dates started in November, so if your food was manufactured before then, and had just been on their shelf, then that would be safe...I would hope...

Thanks for replying, Tambrey!
Unfortunately, my vet's office is closed for Good Friday. But that is a very good idea - if the vet has lot numbers on the food she bought, that she could check if my batch was tainted by the date it was purchased. I don't know if she does, but it's worth a try. I wasn't too concerned until I saw the date had been moved back to November, 2006! How I wish I had kept that bag but no one knew then...
I'm afraid it's going to be a long weekend for me....
Thanks for your concern...

I suggested days ago for any owner who fed Hill's Science Diet Feline M/D to get your cat(s) tested, regardless of date fed prior, etc. Yes, Sue, get your cats tested. Immediately. You also need to monitor Buster's liver enzymes and get your vet to determine why they are elevated, this has been going on for some time now, and your vet needs to be agressive in determining why those enzymes are elevated.
Note: according to Hill's, none of the other DRY Science Diet or Prescription diets contain wheat gluten, least of all any wheat gluten coming from the suspect supplier.
Marty, the reimbursement plan is through veterinarians. Hill's is providing a per patient reimbursement for testing expenses incurred by the client or the vet. Forms are available to veterinarians for this purpose. It is up to the veterinarian to reimburse clients who already paid for testing (up to $100). The Hill's statement is rather vague at this point, but veterinarians can contact Hills for the form, and additional procedures. The reimbursement plan is available via veterinarians through May 30, 2007.
