hi mattingly mom,
thanks for your reply, both cats have seen a vet (cooper our primary and the kitten the shelter vet) and both have been diagnosed with a URI. in addition to the drooling there was also sneezing, congestion, lethargy and with cooper anorexia/dehydration. both cats stopped drooling after a few days while their other symptoms continued. so from everything said here and with the vets consultation it seems the drooling was a symptom/indicator of the URI.
btw i saw a picture of your kitty in another thread and he is very lovely!

Boo, you never said Cooper ever was drooling. But if in fact he was, was there any chance both cats got into something? (i.e, a plant, chemical, etc). Upper respiratory infections do not cause drooling, unless the infection has caused anorexia (which may cause nausea), fever or lethargy (which would cause dehydration and nausea), in which the fever and dehydration would be the most likely cause of drooling.

In any event, let us know how they are both doing tomorrow and your vet's assessment. There may not be a need for l-lysine at this point, if the infection clears in both the kitten and Cooper, then there is little need to give l-lysine. Your vet will advise you accordingly.

hey folks..thanks for all your concern and advice..
so just saw the vet..said both cats were doing very well, no fever + symptoms gone aside from the occasional sneeze in both of them. the kitten is finishing her last few days of clavamox..and is FELV/FIV neg.
the vet said we could go ahead and introduce them anytime..they seem very interested in each other but we are keeping them seperate aside from a door they can paw under/see each other for now. figured we'd give them a day or two to get used to each other. i have read the other posts on feline introductions but we are getting no signs of aggression from either of them. our vet said as long as its friendly there is no problem.
the kitten is so much better..she fit right in..exploring everywhere not scared or shy at all. she seems like a tough cookie and we know coops is already. so hopefully all will go well, we will take it slow for now as to not cause too much stress for either of the cats. she can have the living room for now as it is much more comfortable than the bathroom.
thanks again for all your advice..i hope things continue to go well with both of them and we can have a happy family soon! :)
