Swallowed string

It' s been over 48 hours and he shows no symptoms. Can I assume he's alright? Nothing has turned up in his stool so far.

Possibly, but I'd watch him for another couple of days. Monitor his appetite, food and water intake, and watch his stools, that he is defecating regularly and normally, etc.

Just a correction--I said "staples," not "staplers." And I don't think my cat ever succeeded in swallowing one. I took quite a few of them out of her mouth though when they were about to be swallowed.
