As I said:

It's a well-known fact that cats will mark/urinate on towels, bath mats, laundry and like items. If you don't want this to occur, and if you don't want your kids' clothes to be urinated on, then keep everything put away and out of kitty's reach, or close the door to the bathroom and the kids' rooms.

It's also a well-known fact that cats prefer clean litterboxes.

It's not up to kitty, it's up to you. And he's trying to alert you to something he is not happy with or is stressed, or that he might have a health problem you need your vet to assess.

You were given good advice, non-judgemental, notice the terms "IF" in my posts, if you can't recognize the problem and take steps to address it, then the problem will persist. Is that kitty's fault? Hardly.

So sorry that you're going through this--maybe the vet visit will give you some answers.

One other thought....I had a kitty who didn't like scented litter. I know that you said that you are using Fresh Step which is pretty highly scented.
I use Arm and Hammer clumping unscented it works really well. If all else fails, you could try it. Also, there is a litter called "Dr Elsey's Cat Attract" that is great for kitties who are having litter box issues (once any health issues have been ruled out, of course). I tried it for a new kitten once who was having accidents and she went right to it. The Dr. Elsey's web-site has lots of good information about cats with litter box issues.

Good luck and I hope you are able to get things resolved. It sounds like you are a very busy mom!
