I spoke yesterday with my vet and with the rest of my family.

Jazz is my heart, and my heart will be broken tomorrow.

My vet has told be that his condition is very bad and while fluid treaments would help, he is too far gone. The rate he is going down is fast and their is nothing more I can do for him. He has not always been a healthy cat. He's had to have two life saving surgeries in his life. I don't think he can take anymore. His spirit is gone and he has given up. He spends his time trying to isolate himself in a hiding spot, which shows me the great deal of pain that he is in. I cannot watch him suffer anymore. Tomorrow I will take him home and have him put to sleep. This has had to be the most difficult decison I have ever had to make, and my my family and vet agree that this is what is best for Jazz.

I thank you Traci for all your advice and help. Your concern for him and all cats is amazing.

Are you sure about that? Did the vet suggest at least trying fluids support to see if it would help? I would suggest you at least consider trying before making a rash decision. The two or three days he hasn't had fluids, nor nutritional support is making matters worse, I'd at least give the fluids a chance, give meds to help the gastric upset and see how he responds.

I'm not telling you to extend suffering, but all possible treatments should have been attempted days ago, at the moment the vet determined renal failure. Even when a great deal of kidney function is lost, some cats do respond remarkably well with treatment, at least managing the disease, giving comfort, and for some cats, extending quality of life to some point. I'm not trying to give you false hope, but I think it's worth attempting fluids support and nutritional support. I must advise though, as I have been for several days, this must be done immediately, no more waiting around.
