read an interesting article FWIW;;

Post by davet »

Just read an artilcle about cat allergies and it has been found that some cats develope an allergy to mites...if mites found in dry food--It did not state that these mites wer alive or dead...but every bag of dry cat or dog food will have a certain number of mites in them...it is a fact than is difficulte to avoid...if this allergy is due to live mites it can be controlled by placing the dry food, dog or cat in the freezer for 24 hours...it will not hur t the food and it might, possible, help cut down on undiagnost allergies....just a thought

Thank you for your post!!!

Just about a month ago I put some dry food in a bowl for my cats and noticed some ittle things moving around. Of course the bag was tossed. Never saw anything of the kind before or after and figured it was just a fluke but after reading your post, I guess that would explain it! I do check out the bowl faithfully before serving it to my guys and now I will place the dry food in the freezer for a spell and even keep it in the fridge. I'm not sure what good putting the dog or cat in the freezer will do and unless it's exceptionally hot I don't think my guys would care much for it. (just kidding)
Kitty kisses,
Debbie

Wow, never thought of that. I will freeze the food first from now on.

I have allergies so why wouldn't they?!! Good idea and keeps it fresher too.

not be the greatest idea to put the dog and cat in the freezer, unless of course they ate the food prior to freezing, then you could do it to kill the critters the dog or cat ate (LOL-honestly).but one thing, the critters dead or alive are still somewhat nutritious, but there are better ways of getting nutrition.
