Small spot with no hair
11 week old Cassie has a small spot on her neck area with no hair. When I got home I let her out to play with Sammy and he instantly started licking the area, I didn't think anything of it since he often grooms her. The area isn't any pinker than the rest of her skin, it also doesn't appear to be swollen. It just looks hairless. She let me feel the area and clean it so it doesn't hurt either, I have an appointment with the vet on Monday. So, the vet told me that she will take a look at it then, but, to rush her in if the area changes in appearance or she becomes lethargic. What do you guys think? It' on the part of the neck that cat's rub up against stuff with. My main question is could Sammy have done it? They are never alone with eachother and have been doing very well with eachother, but, they do play wrestle. Right now I have them seperated and will keep them that way until I know that both will both be safe.
Thanks,
Saphire

Re: Small spot with no hair
Could be a number of things...but since it isn't inflamed or scaby and doesn't seem to bother her I don't think I'd worry too much. She could have gotten a patch of fur pulled out somehow, I've seen my cats go missing fur with no injury after a tussle with one of the others. Just do as your vet suggested and take her in if you see any changes. Let us know what the vet says OK?

First I would like to thank everyone for their help. When I first saw the spot I kinda flipped. But, the spot looks the same today as it did yesterday, so I think it's going to be alright
Thanks Again,

It might be perfectly fine but other things can appear as hairless patches with no apparent crustiness, swelling or redness. Some of my cat's ringworm lesions had almost no crust, just completely bald - there are probably other skin diseases that look like this at first, too. So do keep an eye on it, and if it spreads or if you notice any more bald spots, take her in to have it checked out!

Re: Small spot with no hair
Well this morning when I woke up I noticed that the area was red and slighly swallen so I rushed her to the emergency vet's I waited 4 hours and paid $150 to have a vet tech tell me that she had just aggrivated the area and to just keep the area clean and keep her from licking it. I read in the dog forum something about using listerine to keep them from licking the area, would that work for a cat? She goes to see my vet in the morning and hopefully she will be able to give me better answers.
BTW nothing about vet tech's but, shouldn't an emergency vet's office have a vet present? They only had vet tech's and their was a german shepard their having a hard time with labor, one of the pups was actually stuck in the mom and they spent 2 hours of the time I was their trying to get it out. the owner had to put down a $300 deposite and was flipping out that he wanted a vet to look at the dog. I felt so bad for the tech's, they had their hands full and were trying their best.

Re: Small spot with no hair
I doubt there was not a vet on the premises, more than likley the attending vet was working on another case.
As for the dog and pups, it doesn't take two hours to dislodged a stuck puppy, forceps and maunual manipulation can remove a pup where necessary, or, oxytocin can be given to induce labor, or, emergency c-section might be necessary.
*IF* there was no attending vet on the premises, this clinic is liable for malpractice, not to mention a whole lot of other legal ramifications. Techs cannot diagnose, prescribe medicine, nor perform surgery, so if any of that was going on, this clinic needs to be fully investigated, and you should take your business elsewhere. Waiting four hours to be seen is unacceptable, I'd strongly suggest looking for a new emergency vet facility.
When you describe your kitty's spot as red and swollen, you need to see another vet.....this could be anything from an insect bite to an abcess, you don't want to take chances. If she has a fever unbeknownst to you, this could fast escalate into another problem....Please see another emergency vet promptly. (no, do not use listerine on this, you don't yet have a diagnosis of the problem, you don't want to apply something without knowing what you're dealing with)

Re: Small spot with no hair (Update)
Well when Cassie went to her normal vet he said that the spot is a pinch mark that's healing nicely He also asked me about her and Sammy's relationship even though he didn't think the pinch mark came from him. When I told him that when they start wrestling I either seperate them or spray them with water he told me basically to chill out and to only break it up when one of them is bleeding or crying like they mean it (not when Cassie cries so I'll break it up and she can get the upper hand). She is very healthy and weighs 3lbs 8 oz.
BTW the emergency vet's office didn't have a vet their, just 1 on call, which they did call at the dog owner's demanding.
Thanks Again,
