Hello,
My cat has had an onslaught of diarrhea for the past 2 weeks. It only happens occasionally but he also has become very picky with his food. He started to ignore his dry food, and as of yesterday, started foregoing his wet food and eating dry. I feed him Nutro MaxCat weight control food because he is slightly overweight and very inactive. However, he has recently become more active. Other than the diarrhea and increased activity, he seems to be doing fine, hasn't lost weight, and eats well (he's just picky). I already have a vet appointment scheduled, but would like to gain some insight/advice from someone who has had the same problem in the meantime. Thank you!

Re: Cat has diarrhea
When is the appointment, and why did you wait two weeks to get kitty seen? Whenever there is a sudden change in the cat's health and behavior, it warrants seeing a vet, IMMEDIATELY.
Sorry, but Nutro is not a quality food, and in fact, Nutro just recalled several of their products due to excessively high zinc content and under-supplemented potassium. Symptoms accompanying problems like this include vomiting, diarrhea, refusal to eat (anorexia), weight loss etc. Nutro has a sordid past about the quality of their foods, I'd recommend ceasing using it altogether and talk to your vet about a REAL quality food for your cat, per his individual needs. If his weight isn't being monitored by your vet, he can recommend a suitable diet to maintain his weight.
Irregardless if your cat's diarrhea is a result of feeding Nutro or not, you need to get him seen by your vet immediately (preferrably TOMORROW). Your vet may want to do a fecal exam, bloodwork, etc to make sure everything is ruled out. You should know that frequent diarrhea leads to dehydration, which can lead to vital organ disfunction, particularly the liver and kidneys. How old is your cat?
