Worried About Cat

Post by laWiin »

Yesterday my male cat, Dusty, got outside. We have a fairly open yard, and I don't usually let either of the cats out. He got out about at 4 pm and at 3 am or so, I heard him scream, and I went outside to find him. When I did I tried to pick him up, but he ran. Eventually I was able to get him inside. Now whenever I pick him up he hisses and etc. He walks really slow, and has been trying to hide. I checked for wounds and there wasn't any that I could see.

What should I do?

Thank you for your time.

Get him to your vet immediately, he may have been hit by a car, you cannot see internal injuries manifest by just examining him, only your vet can determine internal injuries with a complete exam, pain tests, xrays.

Do not wait, get him to your vet RIGHT NOW.

That is very unlikely. We are out in the country and there aren't that many cars.

He had nearly 12 hours to encounter a car, and my point is, you cannot see internal injuries, you must have a vet determine that. You heard him scream, if you've never heard that from him before, it was a potentially painful call. His walking slow may be indicative of an injury, whether bone, organ or hemorrhage, and whether hit-by-car or trapped in something, why would you want to wait around to find out. Please, get him to your vet immediately for an exam, it's always best to have peace of mind than to wait and have something worse occur.

Yes, he ended up having a wound on his butt/tail. He is doing fine now.

What kind of wound? A bite/scratch from another animal? Is your kitty current on his vaccinations?
