Oh Christmas tree oh Christmas tree why must Luffy eat thee?

Post by Sonique »

So what's the best way to stop a cat from chewing on a tree? It's a fake tree, I'm just worried about him getting electrocuted... :? is there something I can buy and spray on it? It's just a little thing but he's so darn curious about it.

Your best defense is going to be toys. You can spend money on sprays from the pet store that are supposed to prevent cats from scratching (my friend swears by them, but I'm dubious) but the best thing I've found is to make sure that they have plenty of toys that are more interesting than the tree. It's hard to do, but it's the price we pay for wanting our pretty decorations.

I did it one year and it did work, although my house did NOT smell very CHristmas-y.....

get a bag of cottonballs and fix each one on a (plastic) hanger.....soak it in vinegar and "decorate" your tree with these strategically placed smelly balls....they will deter the cats....you do have to redip them in white vinegar each day to keep the smell.... :?

BUT....I am not sure if you have one of those new prelit trees how safe it would be....

Don't know if it will help, but cats dislike the smell of citrus. Maybe spraying it with citrus (I forget the name of the brand that's really good, but I guess Glade ir Airwick citrus smell might do as good).
Good luck!
Kitty kisses,
Debbie

Caution, please don't use any Glade product, most of them are now containing essential oils, all extremely toxic to cats.

If there are lights on the tree, then you're going to have to put the tree somewhere he can't get to, you must not take any risks with any electrical cords! Instead of lights, perhaps decorate the tree with bright ornaments, plastic that is, NO glass and none small enough he could chew on or choke on!!

Traci, I found the cutest little paper tree in a bookstore...you put it together. I know it would not work for everybody, but for me I will put it up a few days before and let Peanut (Angel) go nuts and have fun playing with it.
