My Kitten Isn't Acting Well!

Post by Squrrrl »

:? He had shots today and they gave him a pill to get rid of a tape worm.

Now he cries when I touch him and just wants to sleep. Is this normal?

My kitties act a little that way when they're vaccinated. I think the part about wanting to sleep a lot goes along with the vaccinations. I don't know about the crying when you touch it part, so keep a close eye on your kitten and talk to the vet about it as soon as possible.

I'm sure someone more educated about the matter will post soon.... Until then, I hope your kitten feels better soon!

It also depends on the number of vaccinations given. If your kitten recieved more than one, then he will be painful to the touch. Rabies is the most painful because they are most often given intramuscularly.

What you are describing is most likely normal, most kitties do experience a slight reaction to vaccines, but it is only temporary, they usually will feel better the following day. However, if your kitten does not eat or drink tomorrow, and continues to sleep for most of tomorrow, contact your vet immediately. Also, if he vomits, seems lethargic, staggers or has dilated pupils or develops a fever, anything out of the ordinary at all, don't hesitate to call your vet for an immediate recheck.

Well he had been sleeping for a looong time so I took him to his food dish and gave him dinner and he chowed it down and came back to my office and conked out. So he is eating... he is just super sleepy.

:) He seems okay though, no more whiney
