Cat keeps peeing on couch >_<

Post by Sonique »

I have a huge problem with my female cat. For some reason, I have no idea what, lately she's been peeing on the couch in the same spot, deliberately and repeatedly. She's done it 3 times now. The first time I thought maybe it was an accident or something scared her (she'll pee if something scares her) so we had a hell of a time cleaning the cushions out and the couch was never quite the same. :?

The second time she was sitting right next to me when she did it... at that point I realized that she was doing it on purpose. AGAIN we have a hell of a time cleaning the cushions and just about tonight they finally got smelling the way they should. She's not allowed on the couch anymore and if we see her on it, we spray her or yell at her. Even if we're on it, we won't let her on because we don't want her to pee on it again. When we weren't using the couch, we'd put a table cloth over it just to be sure.

Tonight I found pee on the table cloth in the same spot that she peed the last two times.

WHY IS SHE DOING THIS? Does anyone have any idea why she thinks it's okay to pee there. This is something new. I clean out the litter box every day (spray it out once a week like Traci advised) but this is driving me and my BF nuts. I know Rob is thinking about getting rid of her and to be honest I don't blame him because this is really becoming a problem.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

BTW
I have this Petco Stain and Oder remover and we've used almost a full bottle on the couch and it says it stops them from coming back to the soiled area. I'm thinking she might pee there because she smells her pee but if that's the case, how do I get the smell out? It smelled fine tonight.

Have you taken her to the vet for a check up? When cats start doing this it is often related to something physical such as a urinary tract infect. Inappropriate urinating should always be followed by a vet visit to rule this or any other physical problems out.

Once that is ruled out then behavioral issues can be addressed.

I order Urine-Off specifically for cats....awesome stuff....it gets all residual odors that the cats can still smell...

this is where I order mine from
Amazon Entirely Pets Urine Off for Cats and Kittens

However....you need to determine WHY she is going on the couch.....has she been to the vet to make sure she does not have a URI or some other underlying issues?

Well when we first moved in Rob was sleeping on an air mattress and Lucy peed on it... twice... after the second time I took her (and my other cat) to the Vet and there was nothing wrong with her along those lines. After Rob got an actual bed, she stopped doing it so I figured it was the air mattress. Then about three weeks ago she peed on the couch and has done it in the same spot 2 times since. That's how I know it's not an infection. She goes in the litter box 99% of the time but for some reason the spot on that couch attracts her. :?

She's normal otherwise and has no trouble going in the litter box normally. For some reason she just really likes that spot on the couch. It's where Rob normally sits so... I'm wonder if she is trying to claim that spot or doesn't like him or something.

You could try putting something that will make noise on the couch when she jumps on it...to make her jump down. I have heard of using aluminum foil, but don't know how safe that is. I do know you can buy something to do that although I don't know what it is called.

If it's been a few months since her vet visit, you might want to have her checked again.
