Ticks--is Frontline safe for "geriatric" cats?

Post by dandw2 »

Because they are 9yrs and 9yrs plus adult, my cats are considered geriatric. Is Frontline safe to use on them? We have a lot of ticks around our house and found one inside yesterday. We would really like to keep the kitties safe this summer!

I think this is going to be a nasty year for ticks...we usually do not have them on our property, but I have found some already....grrrrr....

I have older cats, one is 15, and I use Frontline on all of our cats and dogs....

Be sure to purchase it from a vet, not the store...and best to take your kitties in for a preliminary checkup if they have not had one lately, to check general overall health and organ functioning (blood tests can determine much of this) and the vet can prescribe the best treatment for them...

Agree with Tambrey, vet checkups first, then ask your vet about the Frontline, there shouldn't be any problem as long as they are in excellent health. Also check around your home for cracks, crevises, holes, holes in screens etc where the ticks are getting in, close those areas up.

I agree it is going to be a bad year. We have found two inside also, so I'm considering the need to use something for the cats. Not a bad idea to check clothing/shoes when you come in from the yard. I'm pretty sure that is how most of them make it into the house. Can't tell you how many times I've found them trying to hitch a ride on me!
