Help Traci and davet
Re: Help Traci and davet
Well, there was every potential she has developed a dietary sensitivity, and one should NEVER frequently change the diet or brands. In a shelter or rescue org environment, that is oftentimes not possible because they rely on donated food or low cost food.
Even if the fecal didn't show any bacteria, it would be wise to do a new fecal exam after the course of the metronidazole to determine if a newly formed bacteria was present (possibly missed the first time). In the meantime, don't give her any treats during the course of treatment and the new food. Monitor her stools and keep a log or mental note to gauge improvement, and notify your vet at once if after a couple days, she develops runny stools or the diarrhea/blood in stools doesn't seem to be clearing up.
Antibiotics can of course, help reduce inflammation caused by bacterial infection, so it's not a bad choice of treatment, I failed to see where you said she currently has diarrhea.
