Kitty peeing next to litter box....PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!
Kitty peeing next to litter box....PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!
I have a male, nuetered, 8 year old cat. I've had him since he was a baby and never had any problems with him peeing outside of the litter box. I have although had problems with him spraying when he was upset (after he was nuetered), but I've pretty much got that under control now. The HUGE problem now is that a few months ago he just started peeing next to and around his litter box. Let me start off by saying he doesn't have a urinary tract infection. I clean the litter daily or every other day. My cat is very spiteful and I believe he started doing it because my sisters cat stayed with me for a couple of days, and he just continued doing it. I have tried what seems like EVERYTHING. I've used enzyme cleaners on everything, changed litters, tried calming scents, tried cat attraction litters, tried putting his food dishes in the spots he goes, tried putting toys there, catnip, a new litter box......anything that I've read online. He absolutely will not pee in the litter box, he will poop there though (thank god). This is just a huge problem, with a cat that pees like 4 or more times a day, I'm constantly cleaning the bathroom. It's also right by the front door, so as soon as I come in that's what I smell. He is my only cat and only pet in the house. I haven't seen or smelled any other cats outside. This is just getting to be so bad, I don't want people over because he pees in the guest bathroom (the only real place for the box to go). CAN ANYONE HELP?????? Also the smell is bad, I've tried Natures Miracle and a ton of other cleaners, but the smell never seems to leave.

Have you taken him to the vet to find out the cause of the problem? You mention that he does not have a UTI, but when was this confirmed?
Male cats especially are prone to what is called crystals....like kidney stones, but if you look these nasties up online, they are SHARP and would HURT very badly on the way out....
When a cat goes outside the litterbox, he is usually trying to tell you that something is wrong and he needs help....it is hard to interpret their needs, but the first thing to do is always get to a vet to determine the cause of the sudden behavior changes....

Agree, please get kitty to your vet immediately. If you haven't had full bloodwork done for him, now's the time to do so, all cats over the age of 7 need this done yearly or twice yearly. Include urinalysis and thyroid function testing as well.
UTI's aren't the only thing you should be concerned about, diabetes is a concern too, as well as kidney disease, arthritis etc. Bloodwork is necessary to detect these early on in which to treat effectively.
It could be that you are doing too much. The more changes you make in his environment, the more likely he is to react, and he is NOT doing this to spite you, he's doing this because he's trying to get your attention to some matter that is upsetting him, stressing him, or hurting him (health).
Nature's Miracle doesn't work, the original formula is now Petastic.
What "calming scents" did you use? If feliway, this doesn't work for all cats. If essential oils, cease using them, they are dangerous and toxic to pets.
