multiple sclerosis
What are the symptoms of multiple sclerosis in cats? What would the differential diagnoses be?
Re: multiple sclerosis
Cats don't get this.
Have you had your kitty seen by your VET? If not, get kitty to your vet ASAP!

Re: multiple sclerosis
Thanks, Traci! Yes, our baby has seen the vet - had several xrays and lab work. Now we're wondering if his latest symptom might be soft tissue injury, because he's so much better. However, for the past 10-12 months, he has developed symptoms similar to MS. What differential diagnoses come to mind that would fit a feline?
Re: multiple sclerosis
You're going to have to be more specific. MS does not exist in cats. So, what exactly are the symptoms your kitty has had, has now, and what exactly is your vet doing to diagnose specifically? Have you ever sought a second opinion from a more qualified vet?

Re: multiple sclerosis
Visual: Reacts as if he sees shadows/movement; decreased peripheral vision
Muscle: tics, spasms, fasciculations, (?) paresthesias in diverse muscle groups
Thermal: heat intolerance
Motor: Intermittent impaired coordination
Discussed with vet last year, when first noticed. Since symptoms have progressed, have consulted with 2nd vet, and now have appointment with vet who will do basic neurological exam, as well as overall intake exam.
Was hoping someone might have seen similar situation and have some insight. Appreciate - very much - any information.

Re: multiple sclerosis
How old is your kitty, and has he had any primary health conditions, traumas, etc previously? Is he up-to-date on his vaccinations? Has he ever been tested for FELV/FIV? Ever tested for toxins? Ever tested for viral/bacterial/fungal/immunological disease? Exactly WHAT tests have been done? Full blood profiling? Immunological profiling? Has the vet tested for, and ruled out seizure activity? Tumors?
