Pine sap removal from cat's fur

Post by snickers20 »

Hi,
My 3 year old, short-haired, female cat, Snickers, climbed up a pine tree and is now covered in sap on her entire underside. Warm, soapy water just didn't help. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you.

You can try vegetable oil or butter, which should soften the sap, then shampoo with a mild pet-safe shampoo, the shampoo should NOT have any essential oils, tea-tree oils, or citrus oils of any kind, which are toxic to cats. An oatmeal-based PET-ONLY shampoo would be ok, your vet has these available at his clinic. Do NOT allow kitty to lick or groom fur if there is sap on it, or any residue of vegetable oil, butter.

Do NOT use any chemicals or solvents on your cat, ever, they are toxic! Do NOT use human shampoos, etc.

CALL YOUR VET FIRST! If you are uncertain, they will see your kitty and remove the sap safely for you and will make sure there is absolutley no residue on the fur.

And, Indoors ONLY!
